How Our Contribution to Healthcare UX is Helping to Shape a Better Future

In today’s healthcare procedures, digital interfaces are increasingly inescapable. It asks for the participation of user experience specialists to make the interfaces user-friendly.

So, what exactly is healthcare UX? It specifies the experience of users while dealing with digital healthcare systems. And why is it significant? We recently ran a poll in which we asked respondents about the challenges to the adoption of health and wellness applications. From the survey findings, we observed that:

  • 39% of consumers don’t utilize wealth and health applications since there is no evidence of their effectiveness.
  • 31% of consumers have data privacy concerns when accessing healthcare applications
  • 17% of individuals are frustrated by the inability to identify suitable applications for their requirements.
  • The socio-cultural stigma associated with the usage of health and wellness apps challenges 14% of individuals.

These findings show that in order to attract more individuals to utilize healthcare apps, the apps must address the users’ core pain points. This is exactly what healthcare user experience designers do. They design user-centric apps that are designed to match user expectations.

Remote consultation systems, medical transcription systems, health monitoring systems, and electronic medical records are all examples of digital healthcare systems. We at Stimulus have had the opportunity to collaborate on a variety of healthcare initiatives. And we intend to provide an overview of those projects as well as our experience working on them in this post.

A Brief of our Healthcare UX Projects

Healthcare systems rely heavily on information. And, undoubtedly, one of the most difficult parts to handle. Much time and effort is lost in gathering information, sorting, storing, processing, and transmitting. It is feasible to develop a structure that delivers the correct information at the point of need by adopting healthcare UX guidelines.

It has been a fascinating adventure for us to create healthcare systems. It is a rewarding experience to be able to add value to outstanding service industries such as healthcare. We have successfully leveraged our skills and understanding of UX design trends to give valuable advice in the creation of functional and pleasant interfaces. Let me guide you through some of the healthcare initiatives that we are very proud of.

Medical transcription systems

In our fast-paced technology-dependent world, we are all rushing for time. Our memory has deteriorated. Doctors just do not have the time to transcribe surgical notes, clinical summaries, or audio recordings into written records for insurance or record-keeping purposes. Similarly, patients often forget all the doctors mentioned during the session. This difficulty can be solved using medical transcription systems. Voice recordings are processed, transcribed, and converted using these systems.

We got the chance to create medical transcription software that allows patients to record and transcribe their medical consultations in the languages of their choice.

It has a simple design, and a patient may begin recording a session by hitting the record button at the bottom of the screen. He may also select a detection language or have it auto-detect, as well as a transcribing language.

For this app, we designed a basic user flow. A patient desiring to record a medical consultation must first note their symptoms, which will be transcribed and kept. Later, they can record the doctor’s consultation, which will also be recorded in a similar manner. The audio will be translated into text and shown on the app screen as the recording progresses.

When a session recording is finished, the patient can save it. While storing the session, patients can additionally add prescriptions by shooting photographs or picking related images from the gallery. When you save the session, the app screen will display all of your information in distinct sections labeled Symptoms, Consulting, and Prescriptions. The prescription will also be translated into text and presented using optical character recognition (OCR).

The app also has the capability to provide patients with reminders regarding follow-up appointments and prescription intake. Patients can use the app to set alarms to get reminders.


Nowadays, convenience is equated with caring. Patients and physicians alike do not want to sacrifice their demands or lose time in the process. Telemedicine is a wonderful method of providing convenient care. Telemedicine reduces time and location barriers by allowing doctors and patients to digitally connect with one another.

Our experience working on an online consultation project was incredibly inspiring. We wanted to build a design that is user-friendly and makes it simple for doctors to counsel patients. With this in mind, we created a virtual waiting room to help doctors effortlessly manage their patient visits.

The waiting room is shown on the left side of the screen, where doctors may examine their appointment status (finished, pending, etc.) and a list of patients in order of consultation. Doctors can begin discussions with patients as well as video calls with them. After consultation, doctors may record their observations, diagnoses, and prescriptions in the app itself and send the prescriptions as a pdf file to the patients.

Our goal in creating this online consultation software was to make consultations as easy as possible for both doctors and patients. We were able to get a satisfactory result by carefully applying the healthcare UX design process.

Electronic Health Records (EHR)

Healthcare practitioners are frequently required to navigate a labyrinth of information. Paper documents and manual documentation processes are notoriously inefficient. It is inconvenient and tough to handle. Electronic health records have evolved as a way of improving information organization in the healthcare sector. Their advantages are many and promising. They are dependable and secure, and they make it simple to coordinate and share information.

Designing a clinic administration solution was one of our experiences with electronic medical records. We developed a design that allows seamless patient management. Our clinic administration systems encompass all areas of a clinic, from doctor appointment scheduling to video consultations, e-prescriptions, and medical records management.

Our design efforts were quite successful in greatly simplifying doctor appointments at a clinic. With well-thought-out UX design, we were able to build an app that makes establishing and organizing appointments a snap.

A clinic will often have numerous doctors, each with their own timetable. Finding a doctor’s availability and reserving a free slot after receiving an appointment request is not as simple as stated. Our clinic management software streamlines this process by predetermining a doctor’s availability calendar.

Each appointment, including the name of the doctor, the name of the patient, and the appointment schedule, is provided. On the left side of the screen, the administrator may filter appointments by date, department, and doctor. On the right side, the admin may examine appointment slots for all physicians as well as slot statuses such as canceled, available, booked, and free (marked in various colors). Booking upcoming appointments and maintaining current appointments is so straightforward and painless for an administrator.

The software also reduces doctors’ workload by creating a distinct patient page for quick analysis of each patient’s health issues and symptoms. A tiny dashboard enables clinicians to assess patients’ medical histories and bodily vitals. A doctor schedule creation function allows doctors to manage their schedules and consulting sessions.

The clinic management system is an outstanding example of how healthcare UX can enhance doctor consultations. It provides a simple and quick booking experience for patients, assured access to treatment in times of emergency, and safe storage of medical information.

Remote Monitoring Systems

Post-operative care is an inherent component of any surgical procedure. It allows patients to return to their usual lifestyle and restore their strength. Proper post-operative care speeds up healing. Typically, recuperation time varies according to the type of operation and the health of the patient. Even after being discharged from the hospital, patients must be constantly watched at home for a period of time. This is where remote monitoring systems find applications.

We built a remote monitoring app for patients to offer care outside of hospitals following heart surgery. Hospitals may remotely track patients’ health conditions by linking this app to a medical device kit supplied to patients following surgery. The devices do numerous tests such as blood pressure, ECG, and blood oxygen levels as advised by cardiologists. The results are then forwarded to them for review.

As a result, the app assists physicians and nurses in monitoring patients’ health and providing rapid care as necessary. The software supports both voice and video calls. It also offers people access to materials from medical specialists to help them build better heart care routines.

Lifestyle App

Today, individuals are becoming increasingly concerned about their health. They are willing to put in the effort to live a healthy lifestyle. Practices like meditation, physical activity, and healthy eating habits are being adopted by many. However, the majority of individuals struggle with sticking to resolutions. In a world governed by mobile applications, it is only logical that apps that help to address this bottleneck be developed.

We were honored to be asked to provide UI UX design services for the creation of a lifestyle app that assists individuals in developing positive habits. The app emphasizes the development of healthy eating and exercise routines. The app’s creative and quirky design makes it appealing and user-friendly. The app not only provides advice and information on various topics such as meditation and workouts, but it also serves as a forum for healthy living aficionados to interact.

Users may use the app to share life events, start discussions about health-related issues, and purchase organic nutritional health replacements. With features like alerts and prizes, the app provides its users with an excellent way to monitor their mental and physical health.

Why UX Design in Healthcare is Critical

The term “electronic commerce” refers to the sale of electronic goods. In the healthcare industry where there is an abundance of information, and a lack of structure, digital healthcare solutions with an appealing user experience can offer beneficial advances.
